From the heart of New Orleans comes a new look at the fascinating old houses of a City of Dreams...

Turn back the pages of history to the time when Old New Orleans was becoming the French Quarter. Mark and his client worked together to research this project, which is based on historic houses of the period. The exterior of Burgundy Terrace at Le Vieux CarrĂ© is finally completed, and the collector is studying New Orleans interiors and exploring their historical context in greater detail, including the differences between the main residences and adjoining outbuildings and their purposes. Opulent rooms in the primary residence will be contrasted with simpler designs found in the outbuildings, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle of the era.

The main house and its outbuilding with carriage house, servants quarters and kitchen are decorator-ready. The primary house is named Burgundy Terrace, and it is the main structure on the street side of a walled compound with a private courtyard. The first floor features a double parlor with columns and a fireplace, dividing living and dining spaces. The entrance hall flows from the front door to the courtyard beyond, while the main staircase ascends to the upper floors. To the side of the front door, a gated carriageway leads to the outbuilding behind the main residence. Upstairs, there is a bedroom with sitting room (or second bedroom) and a library, along with a narrow room as a cabinet or small bedroom. The attic has four rooms, with dormer windows in the upper bedroom and family room, plus storage and spaces for trunks and luggage. The outbuilding has spaces for a rustic kitchen and service areas downstairs, with lofted servants quarters above. The other side of the outbuilding serves as the carriage house, with room for a single-horse carriage and a simple stall, along with quarters above for a groom. Balconies with opening French doors in both buildings overlook the in between courtyard.

Burgundy Terrace was custom designed and handcrafted with birch plywood, clear pine, basswood and other modelmaking materials and finished using a historic palette of a dozen colors. The exterior walls were clad in 10,000 individually cut and painted bricks. The windows and doors, shutters and railings were handmade, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into the building's design.

Be inspired by the history of a timeless and transformed city, and then dream a new dream!
